Nominations for Board of Directors
A Symbol of Distinction
The role of a Director is to serve as an advocate for board certification and support the core values of ABGD by being knowledgeable about and supporting the vision, mission and strategic plan of ABGD and by advancing the oral health of all patients and the specialty of comprehensive general dentistry for dental professionals and their patients.

The Board of Directors is comprised of nine (9) Directors and is a three-year commitment.
Eligible candidates for Director of the ABGD must meet the following minimal qualifications at the time of application:
- Be a Diplomate in good standing with the ABGD
- Must be actively involved in direct patient care or clinical teaching of dentistry on a weekly basis
Have a record of volunteer activity for the ABGD as evidenced by one (1) or more of the following:
- Service to the ABGD as an examiner for the ABGD Oral Examination.
- Service to the ABGD and the ABGD examination subcommittee through research and submission of referenced questions for the various certifying examinations
- Other significant administrative contributions to the ABGD (by report)
The following documents are required to be considered by the ABGD Nominating Committee to the ABGD Board of Directors:
- Completed “Application for Nomination to the ABGD Board of Directors”
- Letter of Intent, explaining your interest in serving on the ABGD Board of Directors
- Curriculum Vitae
- Three letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation must by written by an Active or Life ABGD Member
Note: Annual registration and CE hours must be current. Applications must be received by August 31st in order to be considered for the subsequent year.
The ABGD Nominating Committee will make recommendations to the ABGD Board of Directors. The Board of Directors follow the guidelines set forth in the ABGD Constitution and Bylaws for each pending vacancy on the ABGD Board. Each November, nominations are presented and elections are held at the American Board of General Dentistry Fall Business Meeting. New Board Directors begin their term September 1 of the following year.
